Old Parr Superior 18 YO Scotch Whisky is a blended amber whisky aged lovingly in oak barrels, but one which grabs the attention immediately with its invigorating aroma. The Scottish marsh with a smoky peat help immediately establish its bonafides, but vanilla, roasted nuts, raisins and fruit not quite ready to be picked also make an attempt to be recognized. That peat immediately materializes on the palate, but the vanilla trails quickly in lockstep, followed by a spicy combination of caramel and honey. The balance it exudes can be seen in the fact that it goes well with any roasted meats cream or cheese dishes or smoked salmon. If offered during dessert, it works best with dark chocolate.
